What to Expect in a Session

Consultations

Your first session will always include a consultation, as it is essential for me to understand what brought you to The Forest Loft.

Beyond that, meditation  guidance and Reiki consultations at The Forest Loft are optional. Designed to ensure that you get the most out of your session, I like to see consultations as sitting down and having a chat – it’s just a chance for us to talk about why you’ve come to The Forest Loft and what you’d like to gain from your time with me.

As well as discussing the challenges you’re facing and what you’d like to do about them, we’ll also be able to talk through both your previous experiences with alternative therapy and any apprehensions you might have.

A consultation may also include suggestions to help you with your issues that you can engage with in your own time. Consultations take between 15 and 45 minutes, depending on your needs –

you should allow approximately 1.5 hours for your first session with me.

Many people choose to continue with these down-to-earth chats after their first appointment; as several clients have noted, the practical support and listening ear that I can offer as part of a consultation can be valuable sources of ongoing help.

Reiki Healing

Reiki is often very beneficial for people who are struggling with mental or physical health issues because it’s designed to start the healing process within your body, encouraging a realignment and natural flow of the body’s energy.

You know how it feels when your body’s tired but your mind’s racing, while you try to fall asleep the night before an important day? To Reiki practitioners, that represents an imbalance of mental and physical energy.

If you decide to try Reiki, your session will look something like this:

First, we’ll work together to create the right atmosphere for you. The Forest Loft’s surroundings are naturally quiet, but I find that some music can help to mask any ambient noise which might affect how comfortable you feel during your session. I have music, but if you have a favourite playlist or would simply prefer silence, that’s fine too.

I’ll explain the process fully and check what you’re comfortable with –
I will always adhere to any boundaries you set.

Then, we’ll begin the session. Reiki healing usually takes about half an hour, but we’ll discuss your needs in relation to how long we’ll be working together.

Depending on what works for you, you’ll be sat comfortably in a chair, or lying on my treatment table – fully clothed, of course!

I will place my hands lightly, non-invasively and without any pressure at various points on or above your head and body, working around you. This will never be intrusive or inappropriate, and you will always be in control of the session.

After the Reiki session, many of my clients have said that they feel lighter, more grounded, and with a deep sense of peace within themselves. Some have described suddenly feeling more mindful , as if they are more able to focus on the present moment.

For this reason, I recommend a Reiki treatment if you’re the sort of person who struggles with meditation.

Meditation

What to Expect: Image

Once you are well-equipped energetically to benefit from meditation – whether you achieve this through a Reiki session or on your own – you can take advantage of a guided meditation.

As research has shown, meditation is most beneficial when people are taught how to do it. It’s a skill, like riding a bike – everyone starts off needing stabilisers.

So, we’ll discuss what you want to get out of your meditation sessions. Want to feel calmer? More focused? More able to put things into perspective? Meditation is an incredibly helpful tool for tidying your mind; once you know how to, you can use it whenever you need to.

We’ll sit, quietly – in silence or with music – and I’ll show you how to begin and get the most out of your meditation.

As you meditate, you’ll be able to discuss any thoughts that come into your mind. You can talk these through during or after your meditation – whichever you prefer.

We’ll find the right practice for you; there are so many types of meditation, and some will be more accessible for you than others.

After the session ends and we have made a plan for you, you will be well on your way to having valuable, insightful meditation sessions in your own time.

Previous clients have noted how their sessions at The Forest Loft have allowed them to get the most out of the treatment they’ve been offered by their healthcare provider. Many people are offered meditation worksheets or online courses as interim measures while on waiting lists for mental health treatment, and Reiki and meditation guidance have enabled many people to fully engage with these.

What’s more, clients with physical issues often report feeling less overwhelmed by their symptoms, or more able to cope with their conditions. Physical illness and pain can be very detrimental to sufferers’ mental health, so people with challenges to their physical wellbeing often psychologically benefit from working with me at The Forest Loft, too.
